Francisco Goya

Francisco Goya - in full Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes - was a Spanish artist that lived from 1746 to 1828. He is most known of his expressive depictions of dreams and nightmares, his etchings on the follies and foolishness of mankind (Los Caprichos), but most of all his timeless horrors of war (Los desastres de la guerra). For him there was no good or bad, only horror and violence. Well known are his etching series 'Los Proverbios' (circa 1824), about proverbs. When he was 70 years old he made  "La Tauromaqia" a series of 33 engravings about bullfighting scenes, combining techniques of etching, aquatint and dry point. Also in one of his "Disparates" (Nonsense) it's raining bulls (Al Toro y al Aire Darles Calle (Lluvia de Toros). These inspired me to my series of  Goya's 'toros'
