Urban Menhirs

'Calçada portuguesa' are traditional Portuguese cobblestones used for pavements, squares, memorials in Portugal, Azores, Brazil and other countries. These cobblestones are the basic element of creative forms of urban street art mosaics. When walking down the streets of Lisbon and the Azores, I saw many loose cobblestones. I shifted and rearranged them a bit, piled them up,and created my own  urban art structures: calçada monuments, like tiny megaliths, i.c. urban menhirs.

Urban pareidolia

We tend to see faces and figures, everywhere. From the "man in the moon", animals in the clouds, and other so-called pareidolia. We only need 2 spots and a line to see a face, smiling or not. This is how we are wired evolutionary, always on the lookout for shapes, faces, moods. Some were watching me from the walls of the former HEM building Amsterdam 2019. Once you see, it is difficult nót to see them anymore.
