Forest photography

Forests have magic, trees are majestic. Trees are individuals, sometimes powerful, sometimes fragile, in a group an individual becomes a forest. A forest is not a collection of individual trees, but a mature community based on cooperation in stead of competition.

Beyond the glowing edges you get lost in the darkness, become part of the mystery, the impenetrable. Every season trees are different, from seedling to the fallen giant, but always part of the whole, within the forest or the city. When the light hits the pine trunks, the red, green and gray colors of the trunks glow in the sun. Contrast increases, trunks light up. More on Werk aan de Muur.

Deforestation across the world is a serious threat for biodiversity, and for mankind. Extensive old forests become rare, in Europe we only have one, Białowieża (Poland, Belarus). Nowadays trees are cut down at an increasingly younger age to satisfy our hunger for wood. Without trees our world becomes monotonous, less diverse, it loses coherence, and gets short of breath. I try to convey my fascination for every individual tree & the forest as a community, for its diversity.
